DENMARK: Roskilde Festival and Tuborg RÅ have announced a new venue at this year’s festival, an onsite club entitled KlubRÅ that will operate near the main stage from June 28 – July 1. Performing at the 550 capacity venue over the course of the festival will be Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler, Ligia Lewis, Princess Nokia, Madame Gandhi and Young Boy Dancing Group.
The club’s five rooms will span 1200 square metres, and will welcome an abundance of performance artists, musicians, DJs, dancers and more. Furthermore, KlubRÅ will complement the performances it hosts with video art and installations.
The five rooms are inspired by the ‘five energies of yin and yang’: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The rooms represent their respective elements in different ways, but collectively they will tackle themes such as equality, sexuality, gender, ethnicity, and the human relationship with body and technology.
Roskilde’s Head of Programme, Anders Wahrén, said: “Our aim with KlubRÅ is to change the perception of what is possible when creating a club experience at a festival. We want it to be a gesamtkunstwerk that fuses music and art. We have been working on it for more than a year. With artists as passionate and political as Princess Nokia, Ligia Lewis and Young Boy Dancing Group, we hope our guests will have a once-in-a-lifetime experience that shows how art and attitudes are vital parts of Roskilde Festival.”
Roskilde Festival and Tuborg have partnered for several years and created numerous experiences at the festival together, including the swimming pool, the Ghettoblaster, the organic beer RÅ and now the ambitious KlubRÅ.
Roskilde Festival 2017 takes place from June 24 to July 1. The line-up includes acts such as Foo Fighters, The Weeknd, Arcade Fire, Solange, Lorde, The XX, Nas, The Avalanches, Halsey, Erasure and Slowdive.
