Tremor 2025: Artistic Residencies and new initiative Arrepio to forge new paths in creative collaboration

Filhos do Vento sessions

Tremor festival continues its journey of artistic innovation in 2025 with an enriched programme that introduces Arrepio, a groundbreaking initiative redefining the festival’s connection to site-specific and immersive experiences. Alongside Arrepio, an exceptional lineup of Artistic Residencies highlights Tremor’s enduring commitment to multidisciplinary creativity and community participation.

Since its inception Tremor has been a platform for transformative artistic encounters, consistently integrating community voices and unconventional spaces. Past editions have featured the opera-journey by the Polish collective Instytut B61, Natalie Sharp’s boundary-pushing creations, Ana Borralho and João Galante’s community choir, and the immersive rituals of Vincent Moon and Priscila Tellmon. Each of these projects reflected a world in flux, fostering a sense of questioning and fragmentation while inviting audiences to explore collective uncertainties.

In 2025 Tremor deepens this legacy with Arrepio, a bold new initiative envisioned as a creative laboratory that challenges artistic conventions and reimagines the intersections of creativity, spirituality, and coexistence. Grounded in connection to the natural world, Arrepio will encourage reflection on the fragility of our surroundings and the necessity of nurturing care for all forms of life.

For its inaugural edition, Berlin-based experimental collective 33 will spearhead Arrepio. Founded by Alexander Iezzi and Billy Bultheel, 33 has gained acclaim for their genre-defying performances, blending industrial soundscapes, operatic vocals, and experimental pop. Their unique collaborative ethos involves a constellation of artists and art forms, crafting performances that challenge traditional boundaries of music and art. Occupying one of Tremor’s spaces, 33 will create an immersive performance that transforms how audiences experience the site and their own role within it.

Complementing Arrepio, Tremor’s Artistic Residencies offer a rich spectrum of collaborative projects, each contributing to the festival’s multidisciplinary spirit.

Filhos do Vento — Building on last year’s successful exploration of hip-hop, Filhos do Vento is a collaboration between rapper Xullaji and local MCs, rappers, and writers from the Ciclo training programme created by Tremor in partnership with Arquipélago – Centro de Artes Contemporâneas. Led by Xullaji, a sound designer, rapper, and visual poet whose politically charged work amplifies African working-class resistance, this residency will result in a live performance that blends local artists’ songs and stories with new compositions. The residency celebrates the power of hip-hop as a vehicle for storytelling and cultural exchange.

Homage to Carlos Paredes — Guitarists Norberto Lobo and Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) will collaborate on an original performance to honour the centenary of Carlos Paredes, Portugal’s beloved Portuguese guitar virtuoso. Lobo, who has long been influenced by Paredes’s work, and Chasny, who brought Paredes’s music to international attention, will bring their distinct styles together, blending folk traditions and experimental sounds. This residency will culminate in a series of performances celebrating Paredes’s influence, bringing his timeless legacy to new audiences through a unique musical dialogue.

Guillaume Perret at Rabo de Peixe — French saxophonist and composer Guillaume Perret will collaborate with the Rabo de Peixe Music School, merging his electrifying jazz with local musicians. Known for his pioneering work in jazz, Perret’s residency will focus on creating a performance that brings together improvisation, fusion and innovative sound exploration. His approach will include creating new compositions with students and integrating the dynamic spirit of Rabo de Peixe into the music. This residency reflects Tremor’s dedication to community-based creative processes, engaging local talent and fostering musical growth.

Onde Está a Festa?! — Teatro do Frio, a collective known for its creative partnerships with schools and communities, returns to Tremor with a new project: Onde Está a Festa?! (Where’s the Party?!). In collaboration with Oficina do Largº and Antero de Quental High School, this multidisciplinary residency will involve youth and school communities in the creation of a public event that transforms Largo Mártires da Pátria in Ponta Delgada into a vibrant space of collective expression. The residency will culminate in four public sessions featuring DJ sets, visual dramaturgy and live performances that reimagine public spaces as sites for social and artistic transformation.

Som Sim Zero — The collaboration between Ondamarela and the Deaf Association returns to Tremor with a new work that will be presented at the Rabo de Peixe stage. Building upon previous experiments in sound and accessibility, Som Sim Zero will explore the intersection of music, visual art and sensory experiences. For this edition the project will work closely with local artists further deepening the connection between the project’s sonic exploration and the community.

Tremor 2025 promises to be a landmark edition, offering audiences profound artistic experiences through Arrepio and a stellar lineup of residencies. Together, they amplify the festival’s mission of fostering connection, experimentation, and collective creativity.
