Be/Ne Festival Audiences Are Ageing

Eventix’s recent data analysis from 4000 events between 2020 and 2024 reveals a
significant age shift in attendees at festivals and clubs in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Festival audiences are ageing, with the average age rising from 26 to 31. The proportion of attendees over 35 has more than doubled since the pre-pandemic era, while the presence of younger attendees under 26 is diminishing. In contrast, club nights and clubs still attract young audiences, with a stable core of 18- to 26-year-olds. This age shift in festivals is likely due to rising costs, which increased post-pandemic.

Inflation and high operational costs have led to pricier tickets and amenities, making festivals less accessible for younger, price-sensitive attendees. Conversely, older attendees who seek extra comforts are more willing to absorb these higher costs. Meanwhile, clubs have managed to keep their prices stable at around €15-20, maintaining their appeal to a younger crowd.

Rick Batenburg – Country Manager Eventix UK said:  “While we excluded UK events from the analysis as we have only been in the market for a year, discussions with event and venue organisers across the country suggest that similar trends are likely occurring here.”
