SERBIA: From April 19 – 22, We are Europe will return to Belgrade, Serbia. Resonate Live and Resonate Conference will this year invite c/o pop Convention and Sónar & Sónar+D to present their own artistic direction and visions of the future of culture in Europe by curating lectures and performances.
Although the festival will officially commence on April 19, two intensive workshops curated by Sónar+D will start on April 17. While Gene Kogan and Andreas Refsgaard will make a three-day introduction to machine learning for artists and algorithms used in complex multimedia data, Normal Studio will run A P P A R E L, a workshop dedicated to augmented reality fashion and the act of wearing one’s data.
On April 20, Sónar+D will invite German visual artist Christopher Bauder to give an immersive lecture in his world of large scale art, design pieces and environments.
The following day, Joanna Moll will open her two-day Tracking Forensics workshop and focus on uncovering and analysing common online tracking practices used by major marketing and advertising corporations. On the same day, c/o pop Convention will invite German Hans Nieswandt, a respected character in the world of DJ and club culture, to give a lecture and a music performance.
During the afternoon, Manhattan-based Jace Clayton – author of Uproot: Travels in 21st Century Music and Digital Culture – will lecture before being joined by Dimitri Hegemann (co-founder of Tresor and Kraftwerk Berlin), Manchester based Gabrielle Jenks (director of Abandon Normal Devices) and Florence To (art director and installation artist) for a panel on the role of culture in urban development. Moderated by Regine Debatty (writer, curator and critic), the panel was curated by both Sónar+D and c/o pop Convention.
On the last day, Spanish artist Pablo Valbuena and Dimitri Hegemann will both give lectures, respectively curated by Sónar+D and c/o pop Convention.
Sónar will present the Resonate Closing Night, that will host a unique collaboration with Spanish artist Alba G. Corral and Serbian producer Regen, alongside performances from then Arctic based Biosphere, Mykki Blanco, and one guest artist that will be unveiled later.
